More Accolades to "Israel Fashion Art": "It's a Treasure"

Hi, in my previous post I was happy to share with you and to thank Prof. Efrat Tseelon for including an article about "Israel Fashion Art"
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל" in the British Leeds Univ. "Intellect" Journal which she edits but I didn't include
some relevant links. So here they are: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/intellect/csfb/2012/00000002/f0020001
Or the Intellect website

Since, Passover is around the corner I would like to bring to your attention, that Israel's Egyptian heritage is researched and colorfully represented in the album-book, particularly in the chapter "From Pharoes daughters to President Sadaat Peace Visit" and hence might add a fresh and surprising aspect to the Seder's table. So this is an additional reason to view the book as a holiday gift for yourself and/or your loved ones.

Looking for more reasons? Here are some of the heart-warming responses the book has received for which I thank from the depth of my heart:

Mimi Ziv, a Shenkar Prof. wrote to me that the book is a treasure
Yaheli Hashefa  wrote that it is a masterpiece
Luci Zutof: The book is amazing and a must to whomever is interested in culture, fashion or history.
Michal Avissar: It is heavenly

"Israel Fashion Art" in Leeds University' "Intellect" Journal

I am happy to share with you the fact that a book report about "Israel Fashion Art"  "שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל" was published this week in the British Leeds University' "Intellect Journal" devoted to Critical Studies in Fashion and Beauty".  The article was illustrated by 9 photos from the book, some of which accompany this post.
I apologize for the uneven placement of the article's scanned pages. For some unknown reason
that's the way my home scanner scanned the Journals' pages. I hope the text is readable in spite of the small letters.

Andy Warhole, Bob Dylan, Edie Sedwidge and "Israel Fashion Art" Album-Book

Hi,  In my "Israel Fashion Art" album-book  "שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל" one of the chapters
is devoted to hats: "From Pioneer Hat to Wonder-Hat". Since I discuss in it not only hats but also
various attitudes towards them such as Actor Charles Laughton's humorous remark in the film "Witness for the Persecution" - I also quoted a couple of lines from poet and Rock star Bob Dylan's song "Leopard-Skin Pill-box Hat" which I thought were quite amusing and inspiring:

[...]Well, you look so pretty in it
Honey, can I jump on it sometime?
[...]You know it balances on your head
Just like a mattress balances
On a bottle of wine....
[...]Well, I saw him
Makin’ love to you
You forgot to close the garage door
You might think he loves you for your money
But I know what he really loves you for
it’s your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat...

Only recently did I discover who Dylan wrote this song about: 1965's "It Girl""Edie" Sedgwick (1943 – 1971) who was an American actress, socialite, fashion model and heiress. She is best known for being one of Andy Warhol's superstars. Sedgwick became known as "The Girl of the Year" in 1965 after starring in several of Warhol's short films in the 1960s. She was dubbed an "It Girl" while Vogue magazine also named her a "Youthquaker". And according to author Truman Capote she was everything pop-artist Warhol wanted to be.

I find it quite exciting to discover "new" additional cultural links/associations to the book.

A sculptural newspaper dress by Shir Dor & Roi Gadasi from the exhibit "The materials out of which words are made" of Haaretz and Shenkar. Photo: Tami Dahan

Hi, Recently I have attended several exhibitions which relate in one way or another to my album-book
"Israel Fashion Art" שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל"

An 1982 creation by Maskit modeled by Tami Ben-Ami.. Photo: Mula Eshet

At the opening of a photography exhibition in the Ramat Aviv Mall I've met an old friend - this 1982 photo of Israel's top-model Tami Ben-Ami (in a "Maskit" outfit) by Mula Eshet from my book "Israel Fashion Art" "שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל". Another old friend was an image of international top-model Michaela Bercu (in a Bagir suit) by Yaki Halperin from the exhibition "Glamor Glimpses - Fashion Photography in a Mirror of a Century"
"הבזקי זוהר - צילום אופנה בראי המאה" which I was invited to curate by The Israel Museum of Photography in Tel-Hai and which opened the millennium in the Museum.
At another exhibit by photographer Mula Eshet I discovered a photo of my very dear friend Alber Elbaz who wrote an introduction to my book. In the photograph Alber (who celebrated yesterday a decade as Lanvin's designer) is seen during his students days several months or a year after I had first met him.
Last week I attended a very unique exhibit "The Materials from which Words are Made" held by Haaretz newspaper in which all the designs exhibited were created by Shenkar students out of old Haaretz newspapers.  The exhibit was initiated by the newspaper's cultural supplement "Galleria"'s editor Lisa Peretz.
How does it correspond with my book? In the book's chapter "Talking Clothes" I explored the sources of the use of words in fashion as well as in art, referring, among other cultural experiences,  to Picasso's and Braque's use of newspapers in their 1913's collages and to Elsa Schiaparelli's use of newspaper prints in her 1930's fashion. In another chapter about knits I mentioned architect & artist Neta Dor who in 2005 knitted one of her creations from folded strips of.... Haaretz newspaper.
