Israeli Fashion in early Tel-Aviv

Hi, Although the book "Israel Fashion Art 1948-2008" focuses on creative Israeli fashion since the country's inception - an article by Neta Halperin published last Friday in the weekly "Ahbar Ha-ir" of "Haaretz" daily newspaper (for which I was interviewed) raised the question why Tel-Avivians prefer casual dress code nowadays. To be precise the title on the magazine's cover was "Why Tel-Aviv still doesn't dress-up?". One of the reasons suggested by culture writer Neta was our warm weather. In one of the answers to this - she quotes yours truly writing: "There's no doubt that Israel's climate influences the tendency to dress more casually...agrees Nurit Bat-Yaar, the fashion researcher and author of "Israel Fashion Art 1948-2008", although a photo I had found in my family album testifies to the fact that in the 30s even on the Tel-Aviv beach people strolled in light bright suits. Not everyone was wearing pioneers' mode haki-colored bermuda pants". In view of this I've raised the question (in the Facebook book's Fan Club page) weather the title on the magazine's cover shouldn't be changed from "Why Tel-Aviv still doesn't dress-up?" to "Why Tel-Avivians no longer dress-up".

To illustrate this I uploaded to the book's Facebook Fan Club page a photo of my father in a light summer-suit and two of his friends in presentable slacks and shirts strolling on Tel-Aviv beach (on the sand itself) before its Tayelet-strolling pavement was even built.

So, although it's not a picture from the book I'm making an exception this time and uploading it here along with another Tel-Aviv photo (from the pre-book period) of my parents. וכותבת: "אין ספק שהאקלים בארץ משפיע על הנטייה להתלבש באופן יותר קז'ואלי ופחות מוקפד, מסכימה נורית בת-יער, חוקרת אופנה ומחברת הספר "שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008"
למרות שתמונה שמצאתי באלבום המשפחתי מעידה שבשנות ה-30 אפילו בחוף הים התל-אביבי טיילו בחליפות בהירות קלות. לא כולם הסתובבו במכנסי ברמודה בצבע חאקי".

כדי להמחיש לחברי הפייסבוק שלי את הדבר, העליתי לעמוד מועדון אוהדי הספר בפייסבוק תמונה שצולמה בתל-אביב בשנות ה-30 כאשר לעיר העברית הראשונה אפילו טרם הייתה טיילת ותושבי העיר טיילו לאורך רצועת החוף על החול עצמו.  בתמונה, ראשון מימין, נראה דודי ד"ר אליעזר (לוסיה) מתן שלימים הכיר לאבי את אחותו (אמי). לידו, שני מימין נראה אבי יצחק פולישוק בצעירותו בחליפה בהירה. בסיום הפוסט הצעתי שלאור זאת אולי כדאי היה להחליף את המילה עדיין במילה כבר? כך שהיא תהיה "למה תל-אביב כבר לא מתלבשת".
