Hi, "Israel Fashion Art 1948-2008"
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל"
had not been advertised till yesterday. It managed to do well in the trade and bookstores by word of mouth and the great press it received. This is how Resling publication, a small but very quality-oriented house works.
So, how did the very first and only ad of the album-book come about?
It was suggested to me by the Israeli Internet Fashion Forward magazine in lieu of payment for my journalistic contribution to the magazine's first four issues.
My articles there included retrospectives about the Jacky Kennedy look created for the first lady by Oleg Cassini whom I was privileged to interview at his unique home in N.Y.
An article about Alber Elbaz whom I had the honor to be the first journalist he showed his very first fashion sketches and requested her opinion about them prior to even his fashion studying at Shenkar. While at Lanvin, Elbaz also wrote one of the heart-warming introductions to my
book.
The other 2 retrospective articles I had written for FF were about Balenciaga and Jacque Conquierre who revived the house many years after Christobal Balenciaga closed it down (and then died) and brought it to the level Gucci desired it and purchased it; and about Tami Ben-Ami famed Gottex model to whom I gave her first chance of becoming a top fashion
photography model after having been for a long time just an outstanding catwalk model. In addition to these articles I'd also written for that magazine, the trend pages of the magazine's first 4 issues.
The ad published in FF's current issue, includes a selection of quotations from the reviews the book had received. Among them, Timeout's Dan Gonen's :"fashion Bible", T.V's Ch.2's Moshe Dat's:"Fashion'Encyclopedia, nothing is missing from it", Renana Peled of "Ha-ir", "Sfarim"'s "A masterpiece of a photographic archive", Olam Haisha's Avi Dassa's: "the book is of artistic and documentation of immeasurably importance", Alice Blitental of http://www.news1.co.il/ : "the book is intoxicating,...one can't let go of it", Odetta of Maariv's " an amazing album to learn from and to enjoy" etc. The full list of quotations the book received from the book reviews (till now) in their original languages are in my post of June 15, 2010. In English I've posted them as they have come in.
