Hi, today I would like to express my appreciation to three people for their touching recommendations of ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008 in the press. To Dana Shvepi of the GALERYA section of HAARETZ newspaper for writing in her suggested holiday gifts page about
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008"
that the history of Israel's fashion as described by Nurit Bat-Yaar is "captivating ...and that the photos included in the book are beautiful.

I would also like to express my gratitute to Luba Shmukler and Anat Zohar of the NANA10 website for writing that it is a book "every fashionista would be happy to add to her book shelf" and that "it is "an enjoyable, sopisticated and inspiring book"

Last but not least I would like to thank Idan Tsivoni, Resling Publishing editor who was interviewed by Inbal Malka of the SFARIM supplement of HAARETZ newspaper and was quoted in that interview saying: The book is the Bible of Israeli fashion, there's no other such review of the subject and it reflects the work of the author Bat-Yaar a great celebrated

ELYAKIM SHPIGEL TEXTILE DESIGNER FAVOURED BY MANY PARIS FASHION DESIGNERS

Hi, today I have recieved a most touching phone call. The caller Ms. Marcelle Shpigel is the mother of one of Israel most creative talents who passed away at the hight of his international career, still young and as handsome as a Hollywood movies star. His name was Elyakim Shpigel but he was known mostly as Elyakim. Elyakim was a textile designer situated in Paris whose textile designs and hand-painted creations adorned many Haute-Couture gowns. In the 80s there was hardly a Parisian fashion house which didn't offer a hand-painted scarf or gown by Elyakim. Among them were Christian Lacroix while still at Jean Patou, Pierre Cardin, "Dior", Jean-Charles de Castelbazac, and many others. His mom was very excited seeing his portrait in "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" realising he hadn't been forgotten. I asked her whether she knew he was in my book 'which is called in Hebrew:
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008"
prior to purchasing it and she said: "Actually my daughter bought me the book as a present. She saw the book in the store and somehow while leafing through it - it opened right on Elyakim's portrait. She was ovewhelmed with emotion, couldn't help herself, her tears started running down her face while people around her had a hard time figuring what in a fashion book could possibly cause such an emotional outburst".I've told Ms. Shpigel that the picture was taken by my husband against the background of a comic-strip style design he did for Castelbazac when I interviewed Elyakim in his studio in Paris and reminded her that at the time it was on the cover of "Zmanim Modernim" magazine illustrating the cover story I had done about him for "Yedioth Ahronoth". We both recalled how successful he was just before his tragic death from an uncurable disease opening a showroom in Japan, about to conquer the world.... ..

ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008 BOOK IN NYC MyItThings WEBSITE FASHION MAGAZINE

Hi, When I was about to publish my book "Israel Fashion Art 1948-2008" I was wondering whether I should do it in Hebrew or in English. At some point I was even considering to have done bi-lingual. This, however, would have made the 444 pages album-book heavier than what it is. So, I've finally decided to publish it first in Hebrew with an English introduction, hoping that somewhere a long the line a U.S publisher might be interested in its publication in English. This, since, as Greer Fay Cashman of The Jerusalem Post puts it in her forward to the book: Being one of the many reflections of Israel yet another light in the prism..it is a fascinating book even for people unable to read Hebrew...bound to excite curiosity not only among people who love fashion."

Hence, I was especially glad when I was approached by Yuli Ziv co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of My It Things, a leading NYC based online fashion magazine and community launched in early 2007 and named by About.com one of the 7 essential social shopping websites. We met each other on Twitter and Facebook and when charming Yuli read about the publication of my album-book she was kind enough to offer to interview me for her MyItThings.com fashion magazine.

Referring to the book in her article "The first ever Israeli fashion Bible" she illustated it with the the book's cover image as well as with four other photos from the book including this 1967 photo by Ben Lam of a Rozi Ben-Yosef katans one of which was designed from red kafia scarf fabric.

AVI DASSA In OLAM HA-ISHA: "ISRAEL FASHION ART" ALBUM-BOOK IS Of IMMEASURABLY IMPORTANCE

Hi, Today I would like to express my appreciation to Avi Dassa, vice-editor of the glossy OLAM HA-ISHA monthly magazine. I was informed that an item about
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008" ISRAEL FASHION-ART
might appear in the magazine's holiday issue. And sure enough when I went through its lush pages I've found in its culture section, named MUSES, on page 237 the lovely Miri Davidovitz photo of model Adaya in Jacob Harpaz' gown which is the book's cover image.

Above it is Avi Dassa's item in which he says that in view of today's artistic interest and approach to fashion the devision of the book into design-oriented chapters rather than into decades is the better, the correct choice. He also writes that the selection of the book's visuals is impressive resulting in an album of immeasurable documentation and artistic importance. Thanks so much Avi Dassa, I appreciate it very much.

ISRAEL FASHION ART IN RAMAT-AVIV'S MALL HOLIDAY DISPLAY WINDOW

Hi, the other day I've promissed to have a sentence or two translated from Shely Shraiman's article about ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008 album-book in the Russian language monthly magazine CHARM. So here is one: A woman who know all the secrets about the Israeli fashion world wrote about them in a unique one-of-a-kind book.

This unique one-of-a-kind book is in a special holiday display window now in the popular, most desirable Israeli fashion mall, the RAMAT-AVIV MALL. The window is part of an exhibition of small individual display windows put out by the mall in front of its main entrance. The book is part of the first window on the right devoted to the trendy violet shade. It is displayed next to designer Sigal Dekel's dress and several accessories of different labels as well as a vase with violet flowers.

I must say I was very surprised and happy to have discovered it there with the STEIMATZKY's card peeking out of it indicating it is the book store's choice of a HOLIDAY GIFT RECOMMENDATION.

in the Russian language magazine CHARM, a glossy monthly attached to the VESTI newspaper. Today, after having scanned the whole article for the benefit of Ana, my daughter's friend - I'm attaching the entire article.
Hopefully, after Ana will read it I'll be able to quote a couple of sentences from the text. In the meantime please enjoy the book's images I've described and credited yesterday.

ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008 ALBUM-BOOK IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE MAGAZINE CHARM

Hi, today my book "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" is featured in "CHARM" the Russian language monthly magazine attached to the VESTI newspaper.
I can't read Russian so untill some Russian speaking person would be kind enough to translate for me the title of the article and a few sentences referring to the book - all I can tell u about it is that it's a 4 pages article, it's beautifully situated as the leading (first) article of the magazine and that it includes 6 photographs. One of them, seen here, is a portrait of me taken by Ron Kedmi a few years ago for "AT". The second is a Tami Ben-Ami pic. by Menahem Oz which was originally a cover photo I had art-directed for "Yedioth Ahronoth" during my years there as the paper's fashion-editor. The thirds is a lovely embroidered design by Russian immigrant Helena Rostmove-segal taken by Isri Halpern also for one of my shoot-outs for "Yedioth" as is the forth, a very imaginative Minkowsky golden hat-mask taken by Gadi Dagon. In addition to these the article is illustrated with a Bezalel graduate Omri Goren artistic overall made out of his grandfather's oil painting and with a picture of me from my youth as a model in an orange grove. The journalist who wrote the article is Shely Shraiman and "CHARM"s editor is Ana Sadgorsky.

RAN BEN-NOON LITERARY CRITIC RECOMMENDS ISRAEL FASHION ART AS A HOLIDAY GIFT

Hi, This morning while I was wondering if Ran Ben-Noon of "YEDIOTH AHRONOTH" ever got - my book, since I didn't have his email nor his phone number I was informed that he included the book in his "GIFT BOOKS" article in today's paper. Marking the most "worthwhile, well-designed and colorfull albums" he wrote about Resling Publishing's

"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008".

that it is "an encompassing and enjoyable overview of the history of Israeli fashion from Maskit till Alber Elbaz who even contributed a forward...Considering fashion a form of art which is an integral part of local culture, Bat-Yaar always knows how to find the proper references/bridges between Israel and the world, between what one wears and what one thinks, and between then and now"
Speaking of Alber Elbaz, enclosed please view Albert in a Rafi Fuschs photo which we took in New York while Alber was still working with Jeffrey Bean. The photo is in the book's chapter which is called "On the Map - Israel dresses the World Fashion Icons"

"ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" IN FASHION DESIGNER'S WINDOW

Hi, strolling on Tel-Aviv's Disengof's street the other day I was happy to discover my album-book in fashion designer Yaron Miskowsky's chic window. Yaron was so excited about the publication of the historic fashion book featuring several of his creative designs that he had decided to take part in its distribution and present it in his window next to his lavish sexy evening gowns.
There is no other book I'm so interested in spreading the word about as"
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל".said Tali Kushnir of the vintage store "Hamachteret" in Simta Almonit st. off King George st.
Being a vintage fashion collector she carries the celebrated Maskit hand-woven "desert coat"
in at least three different colors. Hollywood's star and fashion icon Katherine Hepborn was one of the many admirers of this design by Fini Leitersdorf which is featured in my book.
So now, in addition to the Stimatsky and Tsomet-Sfarim chains, private book-stores and the "Resling" website the book is also available at these two fashion stores.

TAMAR KARAVAN QUOTES ALBER ELBAZ FORWARD TO BOOK IN HER ARTICLE

"It was you Nurit who opened for me a window to a world I was unfamiliar with - a dream world"
wrote Alber Elbaz in the forward to your book "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" quotes Tamar Karavan in her article about the book in today's HA-IR weekly.

,"Is fashion a dream in your eyes as well?"

she continues.
Being a very talented photographer in addition to being a journalist, in her 2 page article, Tamar features 2 photographs of yours truly. One of them is enclosed here .
On top of the fact that Tamar is is a multi-talent in her own right she is also the daughter of th unique international sculptur Dani Karavan.

I was so captivated by Dani Karavan's environmental sculpture "KIKAR LEVANA" situated on one of TEl-AVIV's rare green hills that I had some of my fashion photo-shoots taken there at the time.
Naturally a couple of them are featured in my fashion album-book
The link to Tamar Karavan's article is fashion.walla.co.il/?w=/2120/1652406
It's so frustrating that Blogger doesn't enable copy-pasting even of a link!!!!!!!

YAARA KEYDAR IN TODAY'S RATING MAGZ: GORGEOUS BOOK, STUNNING PHOTOS.

Hi,
They say it about Tuesday, (Twice "ki Tov") but for "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008"
it is today, Wednsday, the day on which two good things happened to it.
The first is: Art critic Alice Blitental's report about the book was published today in an additional website, and now the readers of http://www.news1.co.il/ can also read about how "One just can't let go of the book" and the rest of the heart-warming words she had written, some of which were quoted in my yesterday's post.."
The second enjoyable thing is fashion editor Yaara Keydar's article in today's "RATING" magazine. Yaara Keydar describes the book as "gorgeous" and its many images as "amazing". Her article is illustrated with three of the book's photos. One of them, seen here, is an 1984 Ben Lam photo of a Tamara Yovel Jones gown decorated with three picock feathers, and modeled by Ilana Shoshan who was recently chosen by Laisha's readers as The Queen of All Israeli Beauty Queens!

עליס בליטנטל: "הספר שיכרון עיצובים אכן סוחף לשיכרון חושים"

Hi, Yesterday Art & Theatre Critic Alice Blitental published her report about "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" in her blog "Alice in Wonderland " at Cafe The Marker.

Alice praised the album-book saying it fills Israelis with national pride at the phenomenal achievements of some of the country's designers in the international arena. Achievements which were topped by Alber Elbaz who made the distinguished Times's "100 list" and according to Vogue magazine transformed Lanvin into the world's most waned label.
She wrote that the book is a national treasure because it includes the best fashion images and the most comprehensive text about Israel creative fashion designed since its inception. Alice Blitental chose to accompany her report about the book with the enclosed book's image of a Fini Leitersdorf for Maskit gown inspired by Artist Yohanan Simon's painting photographed by Ben Lam. The second image illustrating her article is of top model Tami Ben-Ami in a photo styled by me for "yedioth Ahronoth" & taken by Menahem Oz, in which the model is wearing an halter-neck outfit she had improvised from pareos.

JENFER BAR LEV:BOOK IS A BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART, SCHOLARSHIP "

JENIFER BAR LEV, Artist.and former fashion designer wrote to me on Feb.25, 2010 upon seeing the historic fashion-album
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל"
Dear Nurit,
Yesterday I saw and bought your new book! It is a beautiful work of art and scholarship, elegant and refined as you are. I was so touched by the way you presented my work. Sometimes I have the feeling that everything just turns into sand here, but
what you have done will stand, like the pyramids! like the Sphinx!
I am so happy with the quote you chose of mine regarding my feminist ideals! The combination of fashion and feminism is not obvious, some people think they are even opposites, but for me fashion has always been a field where women can think about what it means to be a woman.
You have always been a wonderful example of a strong and beautiful woman who is extremely serious about her work and her world.
Thank you for honoring me by including me in your book.
Love, Jenifer
Jenifer Bar Lev is a unique artist whose colorful fascinating and thought provoking art-works
were exhibited not only in art galleries but in exhibitions at the TEL-AVIV MUSEUM OF ART as well .During the period she had engaged in fashion-design her clothes were embelished by hand-paint and hand-prints. As you can see in the above illustration the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel was also a source of inspiration to her. The illustration can be found in the book's chapter devoted to Egyptian inspired Israeli fashion-design.

JERUSALEM POST'S GREER FAY CASHMAN ABOUT "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008"

Greer Fay Cashman, A long time Israel's "fashion ambassador" to the world via her fashion pages at the Jerusalem Post writes in her Feb. 3, 2010 Grapevine page at the Post about "Israel Fashion Art - 1948-2008"
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל":
"Beautifully illustrated the book is a tribute to Israeli creativity in that it not only honors fashion designers but also fashion photographers, and serves as a reminder that some of the most beautiful women in the world reside here and work as fashion models.
Aside from its captivating graphics, the book also tells the literal rags to riches history of the country's fashion industry.

ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008 on YOAV GINAI radio program

Hi,
Today, I had the pleasue and honor to be interviewed by cultue Radio & TV star Yoav Ginai on Kol Israel (Voice of Israel) Reshet Bet's "MA IYEH" program.
Waiting for my turn I enjoyed the presence of three divas Cheni Nachmias, Rona Mesinger and Rivka Raz who were interviewed before me.
After the short interview about "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008"
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל"
Yoav Ginai told me that he had decided to invite me to his highly respected radio program after discovering my album-book in a book store and realising it's a one-of-kind book with striking visuals and text of a very wide all-inclusive scope. I highly appreciate Yoav Ginai's interest in my book since in addition to his radio program he also heads the culture department of TV' ch. 1. and is about to be awarded AKUM's award for his tribute to Israel's culture.
The program producer Haya, said she was overwhelmed by the album-book's quality and its
remarkable beauty as well as by its importance to our cultural heritage
She also said it could be a hit overseas, showing to people outside of Israel a different facet of the country's culture & its unique contribution to the fashion arena.

Several other enjoyable things had happened recently. I've recieved additional personal heart-warming e-mail and phone responses about the book. Since I've gathered them into a "Word" page which Google's Blogger doesn't enable to paste here I might re-type only a few of them here at some later point in time.

Also, The Walla-Fashion website published the first chapter of the book along with some of its visuals. One of them is this 1977 design by Rozi Ben-Yosef for "RIKMA" taken by Sami Ben-Gad.

And last but not least, Greer Fay Cashman of THE JERUSALEM POST wrote in her "Grapevine" page some very nice things which I'll quote here in my next post.

TV HOST MOSHE DATZ OF CH 2: "ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008" IS AN ENCYCLOPEDIA.

Hi, Today I had the honor & the pleasure to be on RESHET's TV Channel 2 morning program hosted by celebrated performer and TV personality Moshe Datz.
Datz was very enthusiastic about the book

"ISRAEL FASHION ART 1948-2008"

"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל". referring to it as "an encyclopedia", saying "nothing is missing from it". He was especially excited when he discoverd it included the attached photo of a design by Yaron Minkowsky taken By Eldad Maestro.

The dress is made of embroided Bucharian tablecloths which Minkowsky found in the flea market and won first prize in an international design competition. Upon seeing it in 1989 on the cover of "Yedioth Ahronoth" life-style magazine as part of one of my articles he had decided that if his and his former wife singer Orna Datz' song would be chosen to represent Israel in the Eurovision they would ask the designer to create their stage costumes from the very same fabric. Eventually their song was chosen and they indeed requested the designer to make their outfits from the same embroidered tablecloths Wearing it they won 3rd place in the international song competition. The link to the this morning TV program is: http://reshet.ynet.co.il/371/aspx

To see Orna & Moshe Datz perform their winning song "KAN" find them at u-tube . "
