Up to that point most U.S vogue's covers were the fabled Richard Avedon's close-up photos of meticulously made-up models. But on this November 1988 Peter Lindbergh's cover starring Michaela - the model was seen in a casual looking photo wearing a Christian Lacroix top with jeans.
According to Michaela, she put on a little weight at the time the picture was shot and hence the Lacroix skirt was too tight on her. This was the reason she changed into her very own blue jeans which gave it a very young casual look, so different from previous Vogue's covers.
The photo wasn't intended for a cover but Ms. Wintour liked it so much that it ended on the cover in spite of it.
Nowadays, Michaela is already a mother of four who lives with her husband Ron Tsukerman and her kids in Los Angeles but intends to settle back in Israel in a few months.
Today she is again a cover-girl. This time on "Yedioth Ahronoth"' "Zmanim Modernim" magazine. In addition to some new editorials taken by Yaniv Edri - the article written by Tsachi Cohen, features a photo of her U.S Vogue cover as well as the above photo from the book
"שיכרון עיצובים - אמנות האופנה בישראל 1948-2008".
This picture, exclusive to the book, is Michaela's very first modeling photo. It was taken by Menahem Oz on an Israeli beach. Michaela is wearing in it a leather "Me Tarzan you Jane" style bikini designed by Nili Twig. One of Nili Twig's former international fans and clients was Ellen Burstyn star of the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".
